Summer Camp Sessions

Session 1: Enchanted Forest

            June 16-27     Two Weeks

        Morning and/or Afternoon sessions

                9:30-4:00

Instructor: Cora (morning) and Keilayn (afternoon)

In this two week session, we will pool our creative energies and inspiration to create an enchanted miniature village in the woods around the studio.  We highly recommend enrollment in both the morning and afternoon sessions, which will be quite integrated.  Children will begin each day working with clay, learning hand building skills to help them construct many components of the village.  In the afternoons, campers will build upon their work working with a variety of other media, much of which will be drawn from nature, to create other components - ladders, wind chimes, tiny thatched roofs, lanterns...  imagination knows no limits!  Children will work both collaboratively and independently to plan, create, and complete this project.   We will be cultivating a deeper appreciation for the many plants and animals that surround us, and we may even spot some fairies!   Children may choose to take their work home with them at the end of the session, or leave it for the fairies to enjoy.

Session 2: Mural Making

         One week July 7-11

Morning session 9:30-1:00

Instructor: Keilayn

During this one week session  we will paint a mural on the outside of the pottery studio.  A local, professional mural artist will spend some time helping us to conceptualize our art work.  Children will learn basic design principles as they work with perspective, color and composition to create this beautiful permanent art installation.  This large scale work will be stimulating and challenging, both creatively and physically (not for the timid!), and will be especially rewarding for children who have an interest or skills in painting.

Session 3: Animals & Their Homes

             July 14-25

Morning session 9:30— 1:00

2 Weeks

Instructors: Cora (Week one)

and (Week 2) Keilayn

In this two week session we will, through exploration, observation and storytelling, learn about animals that live in and around the water and their ecosystems. During the first week, the children will work with Cora making these clay critters. In week two, with Keilayn, we will create "homes" for them using materials collected on nature walks.

Session 4: Indigenous Arts Foray

           August 4-8     9:30-4:00

                     One Week

Instructors: (Morning) Cora

           (Afternoon ) Keilayn

During this one week session, children will explore various world cultures as a way of discovering the ancient language of art.  Indigenous peoples used hieroglyphics and cave art, patterns and design, as a means of communication.  Using natural dyes, materials and clay, we will create our own interpretation of these ancient arts.   Project may include carving clay tiles which then can be used to print onto paper or fabric with our own hand made dyes.
